Bio:
After years of working on an FTE day job as a graphic designer in a university setting I felt a need for a change. The opportunity to buy the existing business of NiaSpace felt perfect. I was already a movement teacher and was ready to take on teaching more classes, mentoring teachers and finding new options for people to move and be comfortable in their bodies.
Community involvement:
I am looking for more ways to be involved and give back to the community. I currently occassionaly teach at a Senior Center as well as at Positive Pain Management.
I also contribute to Silent Auctions for Aids, Heart Health, Breast Cancer Awareness and more.
Person most admired:
Any woman who has not followed societies conventions ... Isadora Duncan and Ruth St Dennis come to mind first as dancers who thought outside of the box.
Favorite book:
There are so many ... The one that comes to mind first is Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes.
What I enjoy most about my work:
I love that I can create a safe, comfortable container for all to find movement that feels good to them. I like that it's all about the individual experience and not about competition. We all have something to offer regardless of who we are. I like the idea of empowering that notion in all.
Greatest accomplishment:
Changing careers and taking on an existing business 4 years ago. It's been a wild ride and I've learned much at many levels.
Greatest challenge:
My greatest challenge is to accept help as well as ask for it. I'm ready for that now.
Advances I envision in my field over the next 10 years:
I see people taking more responsiblity for their health, happiness, and well-being. My role is to provide more options so there is truly something for everyone as they get more in touch with their bodies and find relaxation in their minds.
Strategies to maintain balance in my life:
Phew! That's a good question! I try to feed my creative self ... finding new music, painting, cooking, naps, reading. I look to Julie Cameron's book the Artist Way for inspiration. I also journal on a semi-regular basis.
Advice for emerging entrepreneurs:
Know your business. Know the people who will be attracted to your businesss. Word of mouth is my number one marketing tool. If the word is good it's invaluable to building your business.
