David Lee
Managing Director
Sentient Ventures

Bio:
David Lee is currently the Managing Director of Sentient Ventures, a venture advisory organization performing fund formation, fund management, deal flow, due diligence, and portfolio management services for private equity funds along with strategic marketing, operations, and financing services for private companies. As a result, David is actively involved in three projects: (1) Venture Partner for HBH Acquisitions, a real estate development fund specializing in commercialization of undeveloped land targeted at low-to-middle income single family residences; (2) Chairman of the Board for K-16 Solutions, a minority owned enterprise software company providing system management and network security solutions to the education vertical; and (3) Venture Partner for Emergent Technologies, an early stage life sciences venture capital fund specializing in the commercialization of intellectual property into high return ventures including research related to cures and prevention of HIV, Herpes, Hepatitis C, and Cancer.

From August 2000 to February 2003, David was the Managing General Partner of the Austin Office of Murphree Venture Partners, an early-stage venture capital fund focused on life sciences and information technology investments including infrastructure software, telecommunications, and materials. He was Involved as a board member or board observer for 5 portfolio companies and over $30M in financing transactions. David drove the shutdown, packaging, and sale of 2 early stage portfolio companies along with recapitalization of a 3rd company.

From September 1997 to June 2000, David held various senior executive positions and was an officer at Viasoft, a public enterprise software company that developed e-Business solutions designed to simplify the integration of existing systems with the web and related technologies. His roles included President of the $75M corporate fund and Senior Vice-President of the 250 person Products Division including worldwide Marketing, R&D, and Customer Support, associated $100M P&L, and approximately 1200 internationally dispersed Global 5000 customers.

From December 1993 to August 1997, David was with Tivoli Systems. The company grew from a ?start-up? in 1994, to a mid-size public company in 1995, an acquisition by IBM in 1996 for $743M, and annual sales exceeding $1 billion in 1997. His roles included 3rd-line Manager of International Development based in Rome Italy managing 170 people organized within four 2nd-line organizations producing $150M in revenue with the charter of integrating these groups into Tivoli. David began his career as a Software Designer at Tandem Computers.

David also maintains the following professional affiliations: Member, Technology Leaders briefed by President George W. Bush at the White House; Chairman of the Board, TexChange Austin; Board Member, Austin Entrepreneurs Foundation (AEF); Steering Committee Member, Austin Technology Incubator (ATI); Steering Committee Member, Venture Capital Fellows Entrepreneurship Program; Guest Lecturer, McCombs School of Business, The University of Texas at Austin; Member, Biotechnology Forum of the Austin Chamber of Commerce; Member, Texas Angel Investors (TAI); Special Limited Partner, Murphree Venture Partners (MVP); Selection Committee Member, Texas Venture Capital Conference (TVCC); Selection Committee Member, Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce (GACC) Awards; and, Presenter/Panelist, various organizations including Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), The Business Network (TBN), The Capital Network (TCN), and The IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE).
